The Fight for Minutes

Check out some of the recent coverage on the fight for minutes in the Warriors training camp. It's definitely something to monitor during the pre-season.

I find all of the discussions about battles between Warrior players for positions and playing time to be off the mark when it comes to Montgomery's real challenge: getting the Warrios to play like a team. It is not about individual accomplishments, its about winning basketball games. I love Baron Davis because he is smart. Most of his recent comments have been about how he will help other players be better. That is the kind of cooperation we need. Pietrus's athleticism and defense sound fabulous to me, but his comments recently scare me. Its all about him, his minutes, his opportunities to show what he can do. Big egos are inevitable in the NBA and confidence is essential. But, what we need are players who want to be on a winning team. Maybe Andris Beidrins' best contribution during some games will be that he didn't complain because he didn't play, or that he wanted the Warriors to win so badly that he was patient and happy for the team. Imagine if the Warriors had a bench full of players who were ready when their turn came and exploded onto the court when the overplayed stars on the other teams were exhausted.

Sounds like someone is about to start a fire in GState.

I hope it doesn't come down to a fight. Too much talent is a dangerous thing, I guess.
