California Dreaming

Fanball recently dropped their Warriors Preview. It includes a recap of last year, an offseason review (basically the Warriors did nothing), and some players to watch with a fantasy perspective.

2005-06 Outlook: Mike Montgomery's second season as Warriors' coach promises to be exciting and successful. Davis has been working out like a madman during the offseason to get back to All-Star form, and that's exactly where he's headed. You can promote Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton as the league's best backcourt and I'll listen because they won it all two years ago. But if you're talking about things like talent, electricity, and sex appeal, Baron and J-Rich make up the best backcourt in the world, with the Nets' one-two punch of Jason Kidd and Vince Carter coming in second. Golden State's backcourt is deep, too, with Pietrus and Derek Fisher coming off the bench. The frontcourt, if healthy, offers a nice blend of defense (Adonal Foyle), rebounding (Murphy), and scoring (Murphy and Dunleavy). Don't know if you saw any Warriors' home games toward the end of last season, but the vibe was downright Arco-esque at the Oakland Arena. Astonishingly, there was a playoff atmosphere in April for a team going back to the lottery, again. With that vibe rocking the arena from opening night, the Warriors are going to be extremely tough to beat at home. Bring your running shoes.

The article mentions threatening "the 50 win barrier." Now I know we're all excited for the Warriors upcoming season, so how many of you think we'll hit 50+ wins? That many wins would obviously guarantee a playoff spot, probably a 6th seed. With Baron for 82 games, I think we come close. Without him, we don't have a chance. And we all know about his injury history. His first 3 seasons he played all 82 games each season. The following 3 seasons he's played 50, 67, and 46 games. Let's hope he plays 70+ or else this season is going to be rough.
