What the Future Holds

Dave from MVN- The City drops his thoughts on what the Warriors young guns will look like in The League in I have seen the future of the Warriors.

And yes, friends, it exists. Actually, I Tivo’d the Warriors’ summer league game versus the Washington Wizards, and watched rookies Ike Diogu, Monta Ellis, and Chris Taft play some ball. So how’d they look?

This was Ike’s 10 foul game, which at least means he was physical. Everything that has been said about his rebounding ability is legit, because was a monster on the glass. The guy did a solid job of boxing out, managed a few offensive rebounds, and helped Biedrins clear the glass. He also showcased a couple neat moves down low, but was too passive when he had a shot to muscle his way in for a short range shot, and was too agressive when he was out by the perimeter. Of course, Ike got off a nice fallaway jumper on one occasion, and only had one offensive foul trying to muscle the ball back inside from 20 feet away, so it’s not like he was completely out of place the entire game. Diogu also turned the ball over a couple times on double teams, but that’s part of the learning process. I don’t want to say that Ike’s offensive game is non-existent, since I only saw about 20 minutes of summer league play, but it seems like that area could use a bit more work.
